A Bush Wedding in 1896

 

When Hugh White and Janet Minns were married in 1896 at Marlee, a small village
near Wingham, the wedding party gathered together and a group photo was taken.  

Before The Wedding

Hugh White was born in 1867, and was 29 at the time of the wedding.

His parents were David White and Flora White (nee Henderson), who married in 1859.

He was the sixth in a family of eleven children:
       Christina 36  married to Donald Cameron, 1882, 
                           with children Ann 14, Alex 12, Flora 9, David 6
       Frances died in 1863 aged 4
       Arch (or Archibald) 34
       Robert 33  married to Alice Minns in 1887
       Alexander 31
       Hugh 29
       Frances 27
       Allan 25
      Catherine 23
      Charles 21
      Elizabeth 15

Janet Minns was born in 1877, and was 19 at the time of the wedding.

Her parents were Fred Minns and Mary Minns (nee Creighton), who married in 1863,
and moved to Marlee from Dungog about 1875.

She was the sixth in a family of seven children:
       John 32 married to Mary Green 1896
       Alice 30  married to Robert White in 1887
       Mary 29  married to George Parker in 1890
       Fred Junior 27
       Albert 25
       Henrietta 22
      Janet 19
      Agnes 17

The two families had already been linked when Robert White married Alice Minns in 1887.

After The Wedding

Hugh and Janet had two children: 
              Mary born in 1897 
              Flora born in 1899.

Unfortunately Janet died in 1904, aged 27, after quite a long illness. 

Hugh married Louisa Porteous in 1911.

He died at Wingham in 1935, aged 68.
